Lori Weitzner Assemblage

Assemblage: an artistic process; a collection of people or things;
a gathering; compositions, putting together found objects.
My intention is to bring together that which inspires me and share with colleagues and friends.

My constant endeavor to get the right balance between work, friends and family has taught me that special cards are a great way to stay connected. Whether in celebration, comfort or gratitude, they have the ability to transcend. That is why I am so excited to showcase below the launch of our new line of cards designed by the Lori Weitzner Studio for Papyrus. We have had a wonderful time applying all the special techniques we know so well from our world of textiles and wallcoverings -to create these lovely cards!

I recently went to a wonderful event at Clodagh's new design studio in support of Ape Action Africa.  The lecture and images go straight to the heart.  Please check out their website.

My mom passed away in December after a long and beautiful 93 years.  I am sad. I am also relieved. But mostly, I am grateful for all I have learned from her and with her.

Years ago, she gave me what looked to be some old and tattered textiles in awful frames that I stuck away in a closet drawer. While apartment purging this past month, I came across them--only to discover that they are absolutely breathtaking.  Stunning would be appropriate as a description. Hand embroidered silk scenes that must be extremely old and extremely precious.

I am now on a step by step journey to discover more about them, how old they are, where they came from, and how to best restore them to their original brilliance. Stay tuned!

After spending many holidays in New York, I'm dreaming of other places I could spend holidays in the years ahead.  Here are some of the places I'd love to go...

La Residencia Majorca
To hike the mountain cliffs above the shore and dine
in their restaurant by candlelight.

Mulia Bali
To sit on the beach and shop for beautiful handcraft.

Zurich, Switzerland
Not to ski, but to visit my dearest friends that I miss so much!

Rancho La Puerta, Baja, Mexico
To work on my fitness while climbing Mount Kuchima and eating delicious organic foods.

Kripalu, Berkshires, Massachusetts
Yoga, yoga and yoga.

Happy New Year!  Here is where I spent mine

Autumn in Santa Fe

I was honored to participate in a conference hosted by the Museum of New Mexico Foundation in Santa Fe where the takeaway was how museums and global cultures inform trends in fashion and interiors -- especially this museum!

The archives are incredible; the museum community warm and gracious; a hidden jewel set in one of the oldest towns in America.

"Honoring Klee"

Designers are constantly on the hunt for what's new and next. Sometimes, however, I love to revisit some of my favorite artists of the past. I always return to the paintings of Paul Klee (1879-1940). The sublime colors of Klee's work are an endless source of inspiration to me.

"Colour possesses me. It will always possess me. That is the meaning of this happy hour: colour and I are one. I am a painter." - Paul Klee

One of my favorite little flower shops just a few blocks from my studio - Blooming Affairs.
I never realized how appealing cacti can be!

This was my fortune for the day... Hmmmm
