Lori Weitzner Assemblage

Assemblage: an artistic process; a collection of people or things;
a gathering; compositions, putting together found objects.
My intention is to bring together that which inspires me and share with colleagues and friends.

I recently met interior designer John Kidd (out of Houston) at one of our events. He does bee keeping in his spare time! I love bees and everything that they do.

John suited up!

more bees

A few fun facts:
- Approximately one third of all the food Americans eat is directly or indirectly derived from honey bee pollination.  Some crops pollinated are cucumbers, almonds, carrot seed, melons, apricots, cherries, pears, apples, prunes, plums, cantaloupe, onion seed, avocados, kiwi, blueberries, cranberries, etc.

-A honeybee has to travel over 55,000 miles and visit approx. 2 million flowers to make 1 pound of honey.

-A typical beehive makes more than 400 pounds of honey per year. Approximately 7-8 pounds of honey are consumed by bees to produce 1 pound of beeswax.

One of my very favorite sculptors, Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) has his own museum in Long Island City. It is a best kept secret! Springtime is perfect for visiting and sitting in the gardens - I visited last weekend with a friend.

I recently had the great fortune of traveling for nine days in Japan during cherry blossom season. There was so much inspiration everywhere - so overwhelming in fact, that I decided just to focus on one thing for this post...blossoms!

Even my partner Susan Sullivan's birthday bouquet was filled with gorgeous blossoms!

I was so blessed to be able to spend last week in Turks and Caicos with my family and good friends. Some highlights:

Amanyara - outstanding architecture at this resort, by Coast Architects

While at Amanyara, I discovered artist Valerie Seaberg.
Some of her work:

"The ocean flows through my work.  I am governed by it’s tides and secrets though I have lived most of my adult life in mountain country" - Valerie.

A few pictures of my daughters & friends on our trip!

Earlier this month I was in San Francisco where I presented a keynote address for their winter market. I love this city and I love the designers there - talented, serious and kind. The snow in New York City allowed me a bonus day there to play! Sometimes those canceled flights are a gift!
